How to find job as civil engineer


Now a days internet is most trust able when we think about how to get job but flip side actually there are a lot of scams can be cheat with you by fake job portals.Thousand of job portals appear when we search on internet ,have you ever think about which one will be work for you? or you just make profile and starts apply?

If you don't think before enter job portal and making profile there and after wasting time on it better chose what place is right for you,Indeed,Monster and total job portals are with job world wide you can search for job everywhere in world but according my experience you should first get experience for few years in your home country and after you can boost your profile by adding years experiencing and then can opportunity can be yours.Even finding job in home country you have to struggle many time but don't waster time on useless portals,also indeed have 90% employers which are fake accept it but don't worry you have still chances to get jobs below some tips can work for you and lately I will share my personal experience that maybe can surprise you.

 

Tips for Job seekers


  1. Use job searching portal that have good users rating so you can trust on them. 
  2. Don't write any fake information in your profile also avoid the things those you don't know other words write only experience you have don't be over smart by adding more experience and skills you don't have.
  3. Make your CV or resume according to country where you are applying example-Europe CV and resume are different than Canada better keep that style of your resume,CV or cover letter.
  4. Your CV,resume and cover letter should be in appropriate fonts don't use fonts which look like no professional or italic and your CV,resume and cover letter should be very clean and things should be arrange properly so readers can read it very easily.
  5. If you are applying for multiple jobs ,apply with different resume and cover letter for example you are you are applying for quantity surveyor as well as site engineer don't go with common resume or CV.
  6. Mostly every job portal have filter option where you can set your preference jobs for example if you are fresher you can chose 0-1 year experience so results will be with fresher position.
  7. If you are fresher you can search in every branch of  civil engineering-Civil site engineer,Quantity surveyor,Land surveyor,Water supply engineer,Draughtsman,Highway engineer,Irrigation engineer,Structure engineer,QC/QA engineer,Planning engineer etc.don't only search with civil engineer rather you have opportunity to join different sector.
  8. If you are experienced engineer search for job related with your last experience.
  9. Fortunately you can also join government sector so if you want find job in only government departments,experience doesn't matter jobs just go ahead with yours books rather than go to field.(For your tercentenary exams,can be tough)
  10. Beware of jobs scams-Usually many job seekers get victim by fake agencies ,who are just for snatching your money.They often call you for interview and some registration fees along with documents and after they don't call you for join and sometimes they again ask for money.
Even after doing whole above if you still couldn't get job then go with my own way,I found job with this,several times.Let's go -

I applied for jobs not only on job seeking portals rather applying on job seeking site.First you should be able analyses what's wrong and right.Following way you can analysis.For example followings are job advertised you usually see on job portal

Carefully see above job posted examples .Why above job advertisements look fake ?
Remember solutions and HR mostly are agencies which clam that those can make connect between employer and job seeker instead of that if you directly apply to employer,if you directly connect employer sound will be great.



You should apply directly to employers get familiar with companies name and you can search about company on internet,now a days whole business involves on internet so you won't face any kind of issue while searching for companies.

secondly If you connect with company or employer directly by getting them e-mail or telephone numbers from google or website or from someone than it is extremely good rather than apply on job portals.This trick can work for you.I am going share with you below some steps

Steps to Find genuine employer (My own method) -

  • Go on good rating job portal and search for your job.
  • Results will be with your searched keywords now find companies name which you think and looks like companies name(NOT HR,SOLUTION ETC) kind of craps.
  • In this step search for selected companies name in google or search engine you chose I recommended google however depends on you.
  • You could be able to find job posted employer address by searching company name and location and also some mobile or telephone numbers,website or social networking.
  • Now directly call them or connect by e-mail.
  • Follow them instruction and send them your CV,resume,cover letter(some countries ask for it) and maybe supported documents. 
Hopefully you will get success and don't let yours hope go down,stay always positive.Now the question what is essential qualification  for different job and which  branches of civil engineering is waiting for you-

Opportunities in Civil Engineering (Career)


Structure Engineer

If you are seeking your career in structure engineering then you should be advance user of all the concept with structure engineering furthermore,you  should be need to certification in computer application related with structure engineering after you completed your degree or master degree ,most employer ask degree and master degree so here associate(diploma) civil engineers have less opportunities in structure engineering.Computer applications certification-

1. Midas civil (Used for bridge designing )
2. Staad Pro v8i (R.C.C structure designing,steel structure,culverts etc.)
3. Etabs (Structure designing mostly used in Middle east countries)
4. SAP
5. Tekla
6. Safe
                  and many more application had better if you get certification few of above.

Qualification 

Degree or Master degree in Civil or structural engineering .


 Highway or transportation Engineer

As it appears from name this department deals with roads and highways if you love them explore your career as highway engineer you maybe responsibility for activities on road works or highway ,planning ,materials,cutting and filling ,leveling etc.

Qualification

Employer mostly ask associate,degree and master degree holder,if you are on initial stage you will be on junior position.Whether,you have certification in Auto cad civil or any other application related with road & highway that would be advantage.

 Irrigation Engineer

Construction of Dams,headwords,regulator,method of watering to plants and crops is also comes under civil engineering branch and who deals with these thinks is known as irrigation engineer.

Qualification 

Associate degree,bachelor or master degree .

Water supply Engineer

Public health engineering deals with sewerage,septic tanks,water tanks,pipe line etc. this branch of civil engineering focus on human being effected in modern words by different ways so this branch helpful and have agenda to decrease ration of diseases caused by polluted water and bacteria.If
you are interested as public health engineer there are a lot of breaks waiting for you.

 Qualification
Associate degree,bachelor or master degree .

 Civil Site Engineer

The construction of building either residential or commercial comes under subject building construction and on site engineers have duties to supervise construction of sub-structure and super structure.Like of above branches of civil engineering they arrange for required materials on working site.

Qualification

 Associate degree,bachelor or master degree .

Land Surveyor

Land surveyor is responsible for leveling and measuring angles ,horizontal and verticals with the help of total station,dumpy level,auto level,measuring tape,GPS and many more machines or equipment 

Qualification

Some employers ask for Associate degree in land surveyor instead of civil engineering however,others don't ask they need civil engineering students for land surveyor positions.

Quantity Surveyor (Billing Engineer,Cost Control Engineer)

Estimate of materials required to complete project and before filling tender ,filling BOQ are made by quantity surveyor and making full detail for cost and how to reduce cost while they constructed are alternatively billing engineers  and cost control engineers.They are involved with each others so defined all together.

Qualification

Associate degree,bachelor or master degree however there are certification or short terms courses which especially designed for quantity surveyor,cost control engineer and billing engineer.

 Draughtsman (Draftsman,Auto cad Engineer etc.)

Drawings are the way of communication in civil engineer so all the civil engineering structure stood on drawings.Draughtsman made these drawings in 2D,3D and modern application make it more real and accurate by 360 degree rotation,walk through,perspective view,bird eye, etc so If you have interest in drawings then you can join as draughtsman and draughtsman have  few more names as-draftsman,cad draftsman,auto cad engineer  etc so don't get confused.  

 Qualification

Drawings made on computer with the help of computer application specially designed for draughtsman.Before you begin your career as draughtsman you will have need basic knowledge in computer and good knowledge on following applications after associate or bachelor degree-

 1. Auto cad
2. Google sketch up
3. 3D MAX.
4. Auto desk Revit

There are many applications but above are most famous so get hand experience with above.

Salary 

At end I will write few words about salary,actually it does depends on employer  and directly on yours knowledge,performance in interview and experience ,obviously at initial or junior position yours wage will be low and as you get experience it will be go on increase.If you are fresher don't go on yours salary either it is good or bad focus on that you have t still learn a lot of things after yours classes.
